You know, I just can't walk past a mirror without taking a self portrait.

Arthroscopic Knee Surgery: by way of Hipstamatic

I had arthroscopic knee surgery on Thursday for a torn meniscus. I thought I would document this procedure as far as I could with my iP4 using my Hipstamatic app. Yes I still shoot with my Leica M8 and Canon 5DmkII, but I'm enamored by this app. It makes quite ordinary and pedestrian shots look like works or art. Now I'm not making a judgemental call on my photography, I'm merely stating how wonderful this app is.
The day started early with a ride up PCH, through El Segundo.

Under the LAX runways.

Finally turning into the Howard Hughes Center in Westchester.

Looking up at the clinic building, surgery is on the third floor.

Up the elevator.

Not much for patients or their companions to in the waiting room except check Facebook.

Fill out the paperwork.

And, sit.

Lookout the window,

And sit some more.

Well, I wanted to shoot in the O.R. but it turns out I was fast asleep before ever seeing what it looked like. They could have performed the procedure in the parking structure and it would have made no difference to me.
They sent me home with a bunch of narcotics.

And, these two holes in my knee.

Sunday at the Beach

At Manhattan Beach Pier today, great day, surf was better elsewhere. Shot with Canon 7D w100-400mm lens, and of course with the iP4.

Looking Up -LA & Hollywood

Sitting in a scouting van for 10 hours can be a harrowing if not boring experience. Even armed with a camera there is little to do, unless you want to shoot blurry images of passengers in cars. But then it started to get dark and we were cruising the streets of LA and Hollywood. Ah thank goodness for stop lights. For a fleeting moment there is a photo-op, with a choice between my Leica and my iP4, I opted for my iP4. After all with Hipstamatic the post processing is part of the picture taking process.
Here are some of the images I took as it got progressively darker, and virtually no battery life left.

As always, all images copyright protected.

Musso & Frank Grill

Musso & Frank Grill, 6667 Hollywood Blvd., is Hollywoods oldest eatery. First opened its doors in 1919, and in its heyday was frequented by Hollywoods Elite.
Here are a few shots I took the other day.

A favorite watering hole of many writers including F.Scott Fitzgerald, Raymond Chandler and Charles Bukowski, to name a few.

Random Hipstamatic Shots

Yesterday, in Beverly Hills and Bel Air. A larger post will follow. But for the interim here are several random shots.
Inside Enoteca Drago on N. Canon in Bev Hills.

Then a construction site in Bev hills.

In front of the Bev Hills Hotel. Did I mention that they have the best Steak Tartare here.

Then a barren tree in Bel Air.

All images shot with an iPhone 4 with the Hipstamatic Camera App. As always all copyright restrictions apply.

Photos of the day!

I'm finding it difficult to write lengthy post while I am as busy as I have been lately. So instead I will post a photo, or multiple photos of the day. At least until a time when I can organize my thoughts around longer posts.
All Images are shot with the iPhone4 and the Hipstamatic iphone app. Apple had declared the Hipstamatic the iPhone app of 2010. I think we can go further, I would venture to call it the photo app of the year. It has put an element creativity into digital photography that has been missing.
Yesterday was a good day, a variety of images. Including several shots of a Hollywood Icon

Some interesting scenic shots ranging from oil fields to a Marina del Rey

And an occasional self portrait.

As always all images are copyright Peter Politanoff, all copyright rules and restrictions apply! No re-use without explicit permission.
